Marks Structure
Most AHSEC subjects are evaluated out of 100 marks. Science subjects with practicals, such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology, are commonly reported with a theory paper plus separate practical marks, while many Arts and Commerce subjects are theory-based with some including project or internal assessment. Reported splits vary between sources, so verify yours.
| Stream | Typical structure |
|---|---|
| Science | Theory plus practical marks for lab subjects; Mathematics is usually theory-only |
| Commerce | Theory with practical or internal marks in some subjects |
| Arts | Mostly theory-based; some subjects include project or internal marks |
Passing Criteria
Reports commonly mention a minimum of 30% in each subject, with a separate minimum for practical components. Read the exact rule in the board’s official notice for your session.
Planning Your Preparation
- Find your subject-wise blueprint on the official site.
- Treat practical marks as seriously as theory; they are easier to secure.
- Practise numericals every week for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Accountancy.
- Solve previous HS papers in the last two months. See our guide to using them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are practical marks added to the theory total?
Practical marks are part of the subject total in subjects that have a practical. The exact split is set by the board.
Is the pattern the same for Class 11 and 12?
The structure is broadly similar, but Class 12 is the board exam. Class 11 is generally assessed through institution-level exams.
